Disrespect to a Sporting Hero
While traveling home from work this morning, I happened to overhear on one of the 'Urban Stations' an unfortunate discussion that disturbed and annoyed me.
Apparently Hasely Crawford who bought glory and fame to this country over 50 years ago,by giving us it's first Olympic Gold medal, was shown the most disrespectful behavior by the UTT at NAPA by not inviting him to a panel discussion "Developing Home Grown Talent" in sport Who better then to get feedback from?
Mr. Crawford was not officially invited and took it upon himself to "storm " the proceedings. Having a microphone in his hand , he claimed that he was " blacklisted by the press and others.
I'm pretty sure Jamaicans don't treat their sporting heros with such disrespect. I always remember the late Calypsonian 'Explainer' sang a popular song on the way local heros are treated in this country.
This is not the first time disrespect was shown to Mr. Crawford, I think it was last year when he tried to enter the carpark of the Stadium that carries his name.I can't remember all the details, but I think he was refused entry or something along those lines. It wasn't nice at all. I have to try and search for that article. Very sad state of affairs in my humble opinion.
